Safety
Safety is the highest priority of Wilderness Quest. All Wilderness Quest staff is professionally trained in risk management and first aid. Each team is in constant communication with WQ Headquarters via UHF two-way radio. Each team is required to check in a minimum of two times per day with the support staff. Each team is equipped with satellite phones and cell phones for communication with Headquarters, as well as local emergency services. Emergency support personnel maintains a 24/7 mobile command center in close proximity to the teams, ready to respond immediately.Learning
For many of our teens, life has become unmanageable due to their powerlessness over drugs and alcohol, as well as other addictive behavioral patterns. The wilderness setting itself can be a powerful teacher. It softens the heart and opens the mind to receive new perspectives and learning. Wilderness Quest teaches and enforces the highest standards of personal conduct throughout the program. No alcohol, non-prescription drugs, tobacco in any form, or caffeine is allowed. Romantic relationships and sexual activity are also strictly prohibited.Care
Wilderness Quest provides one direct-care staff member for every three students. In addition, a licensed master's level therapist conducts individual sessions and group therapy sessions each week. The executive director, field director, clinical director and student health services/support director are also directly involved in the wilderness experience of each team. The involvement of these high-level professionals helps to ensure the effectiveness and the safety of the program.Wilderness Quest staff share an attitude of love and concern, knowledge and experience. They are extensively and impeccably trained to guide students and families along the road to lasting change, healing, and a full, abundant life.
